      Three Months in the Southern States is the publication in book form of a journal penned by a British soldier named Arthur J.L Fremantle. He describes in great detail the places, people and things he saw in his three month tour

      of the Confederate States of America.

      Witnessing great battles like Gettysburg and meeting such famous historical figures as Robert E. Lee and James Longstreet gives Freemantle a very personal look into Southern political and social structure. His placing as an outsider with no particular liking for either causes puts him in an objective position early in the book.       the books end, there is no doubt that Freemantle sympathizes with the South over the North.

      It should be noted that Freemantle is a supporter of slavery although he doesnt own slaves of his own (slavery was illegal in England at

      the time).

      In summation, this is an excellent book that should not be shyed away from because of its apparent randomness. It is nice to get a foreigners perspective of the Civil War instead of accounts written by Americans who support one side or another .
