From 1943, Wagon Wheels West is a black and white short. Shorts are anywhere from ten minutes to a half hour. This one is about 18 minutes roughly. Back in the day, going to the movies meant seeing several of these along with the main feature. Those were the days!

I thought I recognized a long time performer, John Anderson, in this. The

man certainly looked like a young Anderson, but from his credits, Anderson didn’t start acting until 1950. I just have to wonder if this was a relative. The man certainly looked like Anderson and definitely sounded like him, so I’m a little confused.

Regardless, in this Warner Brothers story which is largely taken from a full-length picture, a young boy, Frankie Wilson, is carefree and ...

      • enjoys singing and playing his guitar. His tranquil world, however, is blown to bits when his father is killed. He vows to return someday and get his revenge, which he does. Robert Shayne stars as the grown up boy, and he’s now a United States Marshal. What’s fun is that he plans to catch his prey in perfectly legal style.

        Naturally, he finds

love almost instantly upon returning to town. It’s Jen, the little girl who used to make fun of him. Acclaimed actress Nina Foch plays that role.

The music is campy, but that’s what music was back in the day when this was made. There is an awesome destruction of a stagecoach that was pretty daring, with the action sequences ones that kids everywhere delight in seeing.
