This is my favorite of Dave Barry’s books. It is screamingly, hilariously funny.

It is a nice, thick book with medium sized print, so you are getting a good amount of material in one book.

In his typical style, Barry takes his every day life and deconstructs it into such incredible minutia that everything seems absurd,

and I’m laughing until my sides hurt.

He’s incredibly self-deprecating which I always find to be charming.

One of his best moments in the entire book is when he breaks down into teeny tiny details getting knocked over by a wave while swimming in the ocean and being slowly dragged bodily across the beach, frightening other beach-goers ...

      • and filling his mouth with sand.

It is one of the funniest things I have ever read.

His son was a very little boy when this collection was written, so many of the columns are about the foibles of having a rambunctious little boy, and they are always written with what is obviously great love.

anecdotes about himself and his wife being sick with the flu and turning into barely living lumps on the bed while their five-year-old fends for himself, living on cereal, are also hilarious.

Dave Barry has the precious ability to make the silly details of our lives seem wonderful and ridiculous, and that is always useful for gaining some perspective.
