The cellular service provider that was chosen by my company is Rogers Wireless Canada, and I had never dealt with them before for either personal or business purposes. The cell plan was obviously chosen for me, and I was told it was a very good plan for companies, as the minutes were divided within the department I worked in. My plan included all of the usual and needed features, my phone is great, and any time I have needed to speak to a customer service representative at Rogers, I am able to get through

the phone system easily, and speak to a live person who always resolves my issue. While I cannot speak to the specific rates for the various plans, I am told they are very competitive and even better than most in Canada. However, the coverage of the network is simply terrible, as soon as you get out of a major city, which I was shocked to discover; while the tiny and remote towns often have issues with coverage, I am speaking of literally a half an hour from major cities and places along major highways.

      I ...

      • first noticed something was amiss when I was driving back to Calgary, Alberta from the Kootneys. I have never had an issue in any of this area before, and to be honest, the only place in BC or Alberta that I lose cell service is at the height of the Roger’s Pass, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, or occasionally while fishing in Northern Alberta. I was less than 20 minutes from the Calgary city centre, on Highway 22, and I suddenly had no service. I didn’t have service until I actually entered
the outskirts of the city. After that initial shock, I have noticed many non-remote areas that do not have Rogers service; I have even taken both my personal and business cell phones and my other cellular carrier has service where Rogers doesn’t. While this is simply an inconvenience for me, and not a life-threatening situation, it could be a serious issue for some people.

I have heard that the company is doing upgrading and expanding their network and services, which is badly needed. Other than this issue, Rogers Wireless seems to be a great cellular provider.
