The Alias Smith and Jones Season 1 DVD set is a book-like presentation with lovely photography and artwork. The ‘book’ slides into the cover box, giving it that book-like feel.

The ‘book’ itself opens up to display the DVDs. Unfortunately, they chose to put two DVDs on each side, meaning they overlap. I absolutely abhor this process. With the overlapping DVDs, you can’t win. You most always have to take both DVDs out to play one. This

also risks the dvds, too, since one is atop half of the other. In addition, I’ve noticed that this particular setup makes it difficult to extract the DVD when both are in place.

On the plus side, as I mentioned, the artwork is good and there is also a listing of shows which is now. Each DVD also has a ‘play all’ option that I enjoy very much.

There is just one bonus item on this season one set and that’s commentary ...

      • by creator Glen Larson on the pilot movie. I respect Larson’s talent. He’s brought some great shows to television That said, the commentary isn’t anything special and was a disappointment. Larson didn’t provide any real insight into the actors or the production.

It’s clear Larson loves the show and has great affection for it and the cast and crew, but he didn’t share stories or background. He made a few observations, such as his remarks about series star

Pete Duel’s great timing and guest star Earl Holliman being a good comedic actor, but there wasn’t anything that made you stand up and go, ‘Hey!’ in response. He was rather laid back and didn’t really commentate all that much except to mention a few favorite scenes and the like.

However, Alias Smith and Jones is one of major favorites from the TV realm. Duel and co-star Ben Murphy were awesome together, and fans of the show and the actors will enjoy this set.

I also much prefer episodes when Kid and Heyes are separated. Kid is so naive bless him. Good job he has Heyes to look out for him.
