The squad has been taken in for questioning about the disappearance of Ray’s brother Eddie Carling. Sam was one of the last people to see him. The episode takes us back to the period of the 7th episode when Sam has found an address in his old cases so when he came to the address the phone rang and told him to go to the basement. Episode 7 ended there and this episode shows us that Sam was told to take the shovel and to go to the yard. When he starts digging he finds the body of a man but decapitated and in man’s pocket he finds Ray’s number. In the meantime Lu received a package wrapped up like a present. Ray’s brother, a doorman, robbed a dry cleaner in his doorman’s out fit just across the street from where he worked.

Ray is hard with him and doesn’t even want to call the owner of the dry cleaner to ask him to drop charges. As Sam was wounded by his father in episode 7 his wound starts bleeding so Lu sends him to Annie who has to change his bandages. They start talking and she tells him that she wants to believe him. But as he was receiving strange phone calls and as the man at the other side of the line told him not to tell anyone about them he suddenly doesn’t want to talk to Annie any more. Chris informs Ray and Sam that they have ID-ed the dead man and

that they found out where he was hanging around so they all go there. They find out that the last time he was seen the man was looking for someone to help him with a job so Big Boy Louie Bosco went with him.

So the detectives go to Big Boy Bosco’s house and they find a decapitated body there too. A Spanish woman comes to the precinct and tells them she saw the devil kill the decapitated man. A phone call about another headless body arrives so they go to Hastings, where Sam dug up the body. Ray remains alone with the body and takes off the paper with his phone number on it. Sam confronts him but Ray denies he had taken anything. Someone posted bail for Eddie Carling.

It was Sam because he wanted to find out what was going on. Eddie went to get a bag with some silver and money in it. Sam wants explanation. Eddie, Big Boy Bosco and the other decapitated man were stilling from Donovan Stamp, the werewolf of Wall Street so Ray wanted to hide him in jail to keep him safe. When Sam confronts it he says; ‘Sometimes you have to keep a secret when the reason is right. ’ Ray didn’t question Stamps because he is untouchable and he isn’t someone who would decapitate someone over silverware.

They took Eddie to return what he stolen and that was the last time they saw him. Sam wants to take Stamp to the precinct.

      • While they are questioning him another man comes in the precinct carrying a paper bag all dirty of blood and another package wrapped up as a gift. The man head is burned; he says he killed the man and takes out the machete. He killed them because they insulted his scarves although the detectives don’t believe him he didn’t know Donovan Stamp they have to let Stamp go. Ray let his brother go because Stamp didn’t press charges but he says he id done with him.

He wants him Eddie to go as far away as he can and never to call him again, he isn’t his brother any more. In the end Sam gets another phone call, we see that the man who is calling him collect data about him in a file called Project Aries. The man tells Sam not to worry about anything because everything goes according to the plan. In this episode we get one of the possible solutions to Sam’s situation. He is a part of a project so that’s why he came back to 1973 to 2008. We never hear about this Aries project any more, it is just one of the dead ends the producers give us to mislead us.

It s really interesting what people can do for family. Although Ray is a cop and he is against all criminal activities of his brother he just can’t not to help him when Eddie is in trouble. He even risked his job by organizing the fake robbery to

hide his brother from the killer. As Ray knew his brother won’t change so the only way to keep his job, his sanity and to avoid becoming a complicit is to send his brother away where he won’t even know what’s going on. That’s good for Ray because if he knew his brother was in trouble he would try to help him, involving himself into brother’s criminal activities. But this solution is good for Eddie too because once he knows that Ray is far away and can’t help him, he’d probably think things more trough.

In the past he knew that Ray would help him so he could do whatever he wanted but now he doesn’t have anyone to protect his back. I like the part when the detectives went to a bar to find out information about the decapitated man and no one wanted to tell them anything so he tricked one of the bikers into talking. He put 3 beers in front of himself and 3 shooters in front of the man saying to the man that he has to drink his shooters before he finishes his 3 beers but without touching his glasses. Lu asked for little advantage and while the man drank 2 shooters Lu finished his first pint of beer and covered the third shooter. So he won asking the detectives: ‘Who’s the kind of the jungle?’ Considering the fact that the police job was much less strict back in 1973 the jungle was outside on the streets but in the precinct too. Cool, silly and in he same time.
