Although I have owned several cats in my life, until I got my current two kittens, I had never bought cat nip before. Well, let me take that back. I did buy it once when I first got a cat because I had always heard from other people as well as reading in books of how much cats loved catnip. It was like a drug to them, much like how certain mind altering drugs affect humans when they are in college, I suspect. But in any case, my previous cat could not stand it. She’d wrinkle her nose and then walk away, tail high in disgust. I couldn’t understand it but from that point on, I really thought that it was only certain cats that liked catnip and only a very small fraction at that. I was so convinced that for the last two times I’ve owned cats, I never got them catnip and because they’ve never had any, they didn’t know what they were missing. So that in turn perpetuated the idea that most cats don’t like catnip and so that made me even more

determined to never waste my money on getting such things.

Not so. The cats that I have now, beloved and pampered as they are go CRAZY for catnip! I really don’t know why I decided to get them catnip, but while I was at the store, I saw that they were having a special on SmartyKat Catnip and thought why the heck not? I also suspect that if you give a kitten catnip, chances are that they’ll grow up used to the herb and that is why they’ll enjoy it throughout adulthood. My other cat was almost half grown by the time I introduced her to catnip and she wasn’t having any of it. But my cats while they were kittens took to catnip like duck to water. At first however, they didn’t seem to know what to do with it. They sniffed it and then backed away and I thought with despair that I had just wasted yet another dollar on stuff they wouldn’t ever use or enjoy. But lo and behold, once they got it in their mouths, they just loved the stuff to ...

      • high heaven!

In fact, catnip is the only way I’ve ever gotten them to go inside their cat carrier whenever we take them to the vet or to a boarding place. I sprinkle it all over the blankets inside the carrier and like moths to a flame, they can’t resist poking their furry heads inside to munch on the catnip. That is also how I got them to use their scratching post. I would spread the stuff over the surface and they’d come in and nuzzle it with their small faces and then before you new it, they stopped using the leather couch to sharpen their claws and were carving on the post instead. It has helped so much that they’ve gone to the scratching post instead because our furniture was looking really ragged there for a moment. Although the back of the couch will never be the same, it at least is still usable and until we get a house, it will have to serve as our living room furniture so it’s a godsend that they’ll use the post instead of the couch. And I owe

it all to the wonders of catnip!

I really like this particular catnip too. It’s fresh, organic and very potent. Plus it comes with a resealable bag, so it stays fresh for a very long time. I’m almost out of the catnip and as soon as I’m completely out, I will most certainly get some more and I’ll most likely buy the SmartyKat one. It’s very affordable, no more than three dollars and you can get at your local Wal-Mart. And the bag contains a lot of catnip, so it’ll last you a good long while if you don’t dose your cats every day. I serve it as a special treat and then I’ll sprinkle some on their favorite toy and they’ll play with it for hours or at least until the catnip is nibbled off. But that way they get some exercise and it’s super cute to watch them attack their toys with gusto and try to eat them! So if you have a cat and they are in love with catnip, then do get them this brand of catnip. I’m sure they’ll love it to pieces!

I blew some bubbles and my cat sniffed one. As she was sniffing it, it popped in her face. She’s been staying away from them since.
