If you are backpacking or travelling on a very low budget, the Auberge Jules Ferry in Paris is a good place to stay. It is located near the center of Paris, just a few minutes walk away from the Place de la Republique and the Republique metro station. The accommodation is mainly in rooms with bunk beds.

When I stayed there with a friend, we shared a room that had two sets of bunk beds with two other girls. It was nice

that the room was quite small and only accommodated four, as you did not get that ‘dormitary’ feel that you get in some hostels with large rooms and lots of beds.

It was also quieter and easier to sleep in a small room with 3 other people than in a larger room that you share with many people. As two girls travelling together, we felt that it was a safe place to stay, as you could lock the door to your room ...

      • from the inside.

As with all hostels, you will need to bring along a sleeping bag as no duvets, etc, are provided. A continental breakfast of croissants and coffee is included in the overnight stay.

This is served downstairs in an area adjacent to the kitchen. Although breakfast is nothing special, it is equivalent to the continental breakfasts served in the budget hotels in Paris and so offers good value for money.

A kitchen is available for guests to use and this

is great if you are on a low budget. We bought food in a supermarket on our way back to the hostel and prepared it at the hostel for dinner.

The kitchen is also a great place to socialise and meet other guests. I found the staff at the hostel to be helpful and polite.

All in all, I would highly recommend the Auberge Jules Ferry for a pleasant place to stay in Paris, if you are on a tight budget and do not mind sharing a room.
