  • Personally, I am very impressed with President Aquino's unique compassion, humility and deep faith in God, she was a woman of integrity and honesty
  • During her term corruption is not a big issue in the Philippines, I never read or heard that she used public funds or influenced big companies for her own good or for her family
  • I learned so many lessons from her, especially on the motherhood aspect, though I am still single right now but hopefully if I can get married and have children, I will remember the good family values she imparted to us Filipinos

Former President Corazon Aquino was the first female president of the Republic of the Philippines. She rose into the presidency in 1986 after people power ousted the dictator Ferdinand Marcos, it was a peaceful transition of power and democracy restored in our land, because of that incident, President Aquino reaped many praises all over the world. She was named by TIME magazine as Woman of the Year in 1986.

Philippine’s icon of democracy died last August 1, 2009 after a year-long battle of colon cancer. Before she joined politics, she was a plain housewife to Senator Ninoy Aquino Jr., a staunch defender of Philippine democracy and number one critic of the Marcos administration, he was assassinated on August 21, 1983 fueling people’s

      hatred against the dictator.

Personally, I am very impressed with President Aquino’s unique compassion, humility and deep faith in God, she was a woman of integrity and honesty. During her term corruption is not a big issue in the Philippines, I never read or heard that she used public funds or influenced big companies for her own good or for her family. She remained to her devotion to maintain peace and order to the country after the troubled years of the Marcos regime.

President Aquino as what I had observed, was a deeply religious woman, her nobility influenced my mind to be devoted to my mission in life too, that is to remain humble all through out and be vigilant on what’s ...

      • happening to the environment. When Ninoy Aquino was assassinated in 1983, I was only nine years old and yet it planted in my mind to be strong and defended what is just and right. I was sympathetic to Ninoy’s widow because she have to endure the painful injustice killing of her husband and raised their five children alone.

When she died last August 1, 2009, I felt super sad because it seems our country lost a mother figure that ready to stand and defend the democracy she restored in 1986, from different threats of returning back again to the horrifying moments of martial laws. I feel sad in a way that the former President was very true to her mission in life-that

is to unite the people under a peaceful and corruption-free administration.

She was my model of integrity, good virtue, family values, devotion to Catholic faith. I learned so many lessons from her, especially on the motherhood aspect, though I am still single right now but hopefully if I can get married and have children, I will remember the good family values she imparted to us Filipinos. As a mother, I was impressed with how she raised as good citizens her five children and when one of them is in trouble, the former President is always on their side supporting and comforting. She was really impressing, and I will continue remembering her as a woman of faith and compassion in my country.
