M*A*S*H: Blood Brothers is a critically acclaimed episode from season nine of this series. Harry Morgan directed the show which guest stars Patrick Swayze as Private Gary Sturges, who shows up at the 4077th with a broken arm and a severely wounded friend. Sturges is determined to stay by

his friend’s side and be there when he wakes up.

Meanwhile in this wonderful episode, Father Francis Mulcahy (William Christopher) is up in arms in anxiety over the impending visit of Cardinal Reardon, played by Ray Middleton. He wants everything in the camp to be perfect and gets very annoyed when ...

      • the personnel don’t cooperate as he thinks they should.

Then Blood Brothers delivers its bombshell about the young Sturges. After he’d volunteered to give blood for his friend, Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda) makes a tragic discovery. Ultimately, this story helps Mulcahy to see the error of his thinking. He

makes an emotional sermon on Sunday which turns out to be nothing like the one he’d planned or hoped to give.

Swayze was perfection as the worried friend who truly did care more for his friend than himself. This role got a lot of attention for the young actor.

        M*A*S*H: Blood Brothers was excellent.
