  • It is one of my favourite things about living in or visiting the city
  • This is a truly amazing selection of olive oils, vinegars, vinaigrettes, marinades, rubs, spices, and seasonings
  • Then there are pots, pans and other cookware, all extremely high-end, including the All-Clad line, which every gourmet knows is the best of the best-expensive, but simply the best
  • The Cookbooks Company Cooks is a wonderful shopping experience, and anyone who enjoys cooking, or even just eating, will find this store simply delightful

It is very difficult to describe The Cookbooks Company Cooks store in Calgary to anyone who has not been there before, other than that it is a Calgary institution and it is a store for everything and anything to do with cooking. It is eclectic and has specialty and exotic items that are hard or impossible to find anywhere else. It is one of my favourite things about living in or visiting the city. When I lived in Calgary a few years ago, I went to Cookbooks once a week, and now that I am staying in the city, I go every chance I get. As well as retail items available at their store, the company on also puts on tastings and cooking

classes in the basement, and I sent my husband to a cooking class years ago, and he learned a lot in one afternoon. The schedule of classes, as well as other information, is available on their website at http://www.cookbookcooks.com; however, actually being in the store is really the only way to experience this unique and delightful store.

Cookbooks sells such a variety of different types of items, and my favourite part of going here is browsing, because the stock changes every week. This is a truly amazing selection of olive oils, vinegars, vinaigrettes, marinades, rubs, spices, and seasonings. If there is an exotic item in a recipe that you cannot find anywhere else, it will be here. There are specialty coffees and teas and ...

      • a small but very exotic refrigerated section of cheeses and meat. One entire wall of the store, the right hand side, is full of cookbooks from all over the world. Then there are pots, pans and other cookware, all extremely high-end, including the All-Clad line, which every gourmet knows is the best of the best-expensive, but simply the best. There are also dry mixes for soups, and a small selection of hard to find fresh herbs. There are also cooking utensils and some very exotic serving plates. This last time we visited, we were able to find saffron, which is very difficult to find, as well as a red wine vinegar we needed for a recipe. The staff is wonderful. The store tends
to get crowded on the weekends especially, as it is very small, but the women who have worked here have been here for years, and they know everything there is to know about the stock they carry and about cooking in general. You can also pick up a schedule of cooking classes and other events at the register. If there is an item that you cannot find in the store, the staff will find it for you and likely order it in for you.

The Cookbooks Company Cooks is a wonderful shopping experience, and anyone who enjoys cooking, or even just eating, will find this store simply delightful. Fair warning, though, it is a bit pricey, but the merchandise is the highest quality there is.
