Along for the Ride is a young adult book written by the author Sarah Dessen. It came out about a month ago and is hardcover (twenty dollars at most bookstores) and about three hundred and eighty pages long.

The main character is a girl named Auden whose parents are divorced. She decides to visit her Dad for the summer before college starts with his wife and newborn baby, Thisbe. She had grown up really quickly

and never really did things that most kids did like learn to ride a bike and make friends. Instead, she was constantly studying and trying to please her mother. When she comes to Colby however, everything changes.

Her stepmother is exactly the opposite of her. Too cheery, too exuberant, too girly. Just being with her made her exhausted. But after a while in Colby, she realizes that she has changed. She starts working for her stepmother ...

      • at her shop, and with the help of three girls, Maggie, Leah, and Esther, as well as a mysterious boy she meets when she is wandering the streets late at night, she learns to enjoy new things. Like Auden, Eli is also an insomniac, so they go wandering together late at night on a quest to try all the things that Auden had missed out during her childhood. She learns to embrace second chances, and
also learn that she can’t do everything right the first time.

This wasn’t one of Sarah Dessen’s best books, but it was pretty good. The setting is the same place as in Keeping the Moon. The Last Chance restaurant is mentioned a few times. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat while reading this book, and I could put it down, but it is still a pretty good read. It is worth a check out.
