My husband and I were constantly traveling ever since the summer started. But for this year, it is our first time to go visit a nice beach. Early this July, we went to a place called Silver Lake Sand Dunes Area. A friend of ours mentioned this on one of our dinner get together. We got interested and searched about it. We found out that this Michigan Beach town is nominated by Travel & Leisure as one of America’s Best Little Beach towns. It is located along Lake Michigan shoreline and is just approximately 4 hour drive away from the city of Detroit.

We packed our picnic basket, sun tan lotion and our swim wears and decided to checked out the place. We were not disappointed. This place has so much to offer. First there’s the Silver Lake

Sand Dunes. It is a natural phenomenon of endless sugar fine sands. It is as if you are in a Middle East desert. The dunes area is subdivided into 3 sections. The northern part is reserved for off-road The central part is for hiking, walking and enjoying the beaches. The southern part, on the other hand is for the Mac Woods Dune Rides. Mac Woods offers a 40-minute 7-mile tour of the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. We get to enjoy the central part of the dunes more. After taking photos and hiking on the dunes, we checked out the Little Sable Lighthouse. It is a beautiful lighthouse located by the beach. Everyone can go up the lighthouse and enjoy a great view. We then decided to have lunch at the Silver Lake State Park Campground Beach.

      • The place is open to the general public, you just have to pay the State Park admission fee which is $6 per car. This state park made us enjoy a wonderful and comfortable lunch. They have numerous picnic tables and pavilion. Restrooms are also conveniently located in the area. We get to enjoy the view of the dunes and the beach, the breeze and the site of boats. Our next destination was the Cedar Point County Park. This is a more secluded beach park. We enjoyed a relaxing time here. This particular place is great for walking while soaking your feet on the cold fresh water and also for getting a tan. Getting to the beach from the parking lot was made easy by the multi-tiered wooden steps that lead visitors from the high
bank bluff through the forest canopy, to the beach below. We only have a few hours to spare because we have to drive back home, so we ended our visit here.

We are planning to come back because there are just too many things to do that we missed. The Silver Lake Dunes and beach is also great for overnight camping, dining and shopping, enjoying the freshest food on farm markets and bakeries and a whole lot more.

An annual Apple & BBQ Cook-Off Festival is also something to look forward to. Lodging areas are also available so you don’t have to worry where to spend the night. My husband and I loved the place. We highly recommend you check it out. Silver Lake Dunes and Beaches is a great getaway for families and a romantic destination for couples too.
