The G Spot in Quito, Ecuador is known for its food. The food here is not typical tourist restaurants attempts at imitating western cuisine. The food here is faithful renditions of what Ecuadorians call American. In other words burgers and regional American fast food compose the menu that is both reasonable and familiar.

Two items that always draw me back to the popular spot are the burgers and the Philly Cheese sandwich. The burgers are big and well made. Options include chili, bacon, cheese with double portions available for a decent price. The Philly Cheese Steak might not hold up for a native of Philadelphia but are the closest thing to the real thing found in Ecuador. Options for beef, chicken or a mix of both are

This is unique to Ecuador. It´s not that one can not find a good burger here, it´s the opposite, there are burger places on every corner, in every bus station, and even in remote parts that only long bus journeys travel through. It´s the quality of the food here that matters and keeps me making the journey across the city to find food that I love. In fact, having a place that is known for it´s consistency of food that is taken for granted elsewhere is comforting.

Comfort food is a difficult concept. For Ecuadorians its a combination of pork, maize, and spice. For the English, a Sheppard’s Pie will fill the space. For those used to big city food, Sushi is a much needed delicacy.

      • For an American such as me, Hamburgers and Philly Cheese Sandwiches are the epidemic of comfort.

The restaurant is decorated with huge graffiti murals and sign and posters are plastered to the walls promoting concerts and events such as dance and cultural events. Local restaurant owners who serve specialty food can be seen visiting the G Spot during breaks from crowds of hungry tourists!

I have cooked professionally for a few seasons in the Colorado Mountains. For as long as I can remember I have consistently found myself finding a good cheeseburger after spending the day cooking three course meals for others. I like the simplicity, the flavor, and the price of a good burger cooked well.

The G Spot delivers burgers in such a fashion. A double burger will

last me a day and a Philly Sandwich can be split into two meals. No nonsense, straight up, tasty burgers to satisfy those in search of a little bit of home is the name of the game here and the folks at the G Spot consistently school the competition.

While Quito has no shortage of restaurants that cater to the American palette, Chili´s, McDonalds, Burger Kind, and Taco Bell can be found with little effort, The G Spot delivers a different kind of service than those offering premade burgers. The ingredients are fresh and so is the attitude of the staff and patrons who visit. This environment combined with the variety of food offered make the G Spot a better option when looking for food that reminds one of home.
