M*A*S*H: Big Mac is from season three and deals with the impending visit of General Douglas McArthur. Is the 4077th ready for a visit from the esteemed general? Well, maybe, especially if Corporal Klinger isn’t standing guard in one of his dresses.

Graham Jarvis appears as Colonel Whiteman, one of the

advance men. He attempts to coach the personnel on how to act when McArthur arrives.

This is a good opportunity to mention Loudon Wainwright III, who appears in this series as a recurring member of the 4077th, Captain Calvin Spalding. I don’t think he’s ever had an actual piece of acting ...

      • to do, but what Wainwright does is play the guitar and sing. He’s done it in a few episodes as a sort of highlight for the story being told. Sometimes his tunes are lighthearted and sometimes serious. In this episode, he sang a funny song on request about McArthur’s
        visit.

As one might expect, McArthur’s visit isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, but the preparations are funny, and this is a fun show to watch. Don’t stop watching too soon, either, because Jamie Farr steals the show with one last, speechless moment on screen at the very end. It’s priceless.
