M*A*S*H: There Is Nothing Like a Nurse from season three is essentially a tribute to the nurses of the 4077th. When an impending enemy attack is threatened, the nurses are ordered to leave and go to a safer location. This brings on a lot of good-byes, including Hawkeye giving Hot Lips a whopper of a kiss. It’s the second time, if I recall correctly,

that he’s done this. She always gets all giddy afterwards, and poor Frank Burns can only stand there and look silly.

There’s some nice comedy in There Is Nothing Like a Nurse, including Hawkeye and Trapper John listening in on Frank’s phone call to Hot Lips. The best bit, however, is when the captains find Frank’s home movies and decide to play them. As it ...

      • turns out, the footage is of Frank’s wedding. It’s really pretty tragic. The bride looks like she’s going to her death instead of to her wedding.

There’s a tender moment when one of the soldiers sings a song about the nurses and how they’re missed. It’s a nostalgic tune that brings silence to the officers club.

The punch line comes when the attack happens. Let’s

just say it’s not what it’s not really very threatening. Soon, the nurses return and there’s a final belly laugh that relates back to Frank’s home movies. It’s a good one.

I also love the very end which has a lot of singing in it. They did that a lot in the first few years, and it lent to the party flavor of the show in this era.
