  • Although in my opinion, this concept is hardly unique or new, given the popularity of certain Mexican beers served with real lime, the hype about this product was big and wide-spread enough that every bar, liquor store and beer and wine store in Alberta and BC were sold out until last week
  • Later in the week, while at the liquor store, I saw six-packs of Bud Light Lime for sale, at $3 more per six-pack than my usual beer, but I bought it anyway, thinking I would try it when I hadn’t had other beer first, to see if I liked it at all
  • While I like this beer more than any other American or Canadian beer, I do not like it as much as Corona or Dos Equis, my usual brands, and the price is significantly higher
  • I think that if you like Bud brand beer anyway, you may really like this new product, but I will be going back to my usual beer and buying a real lime the next time I want a beer

The marketing department at Bud Light did a great job marketing the company’s new product, Bud Light Lime. Although in my opinion, this concept is hardly unique or new, given the popularity of certain Mexican beers served with real lime, the hype about this product was big and wide-spread enough that every bar, liquor store and beer and wine store in Alberta and BC were sold out until last week. Obviously, such anticipation is good for business, but the reality is that this beer is nothing great or new, and the lime taste is artificial, instead of the real thing.

After watching an ad on television

for Bud Light Lime, and then seeing a few billboards around the city for it, I did begin looking for it whenever I went to the liquor store or beer and wine store. For 3 weeks, every place that sold beer that I went to were sold out, including two pubs I went to during that time. Finally, I was at a barbeque where a friend had a six pack, and I tried finally tried it. I had this beer out of the bottle and ice-cold, like I always drink beer, and the lime taste was not very apparent on the first few drinks. I ...

      • did think that the beer tasted less ‘skunky’ than Budweiser and Bud Light beer usually tastes, at least to me (I am not a Bud fan), and it did taste a bit like a Mexican-style beer, but not enough for me to become a fan. Later in the week, while at the liquor store, I saw six-packs of Bud Light Lime for sale, at $3 more per six-pack than my usual beer, but I bought it anyway, thinking I would try it when I hadn’t had other beer first, to see if I liked it at all.

Later that day, in the comfort of my own

home, I cracked a cold Bud Light Lime, and it was the same as the previous time; it was lighter and more refreshing than Bud Light, but the lime taste was very subtle, almost non-existent. While I like this beer more than any other American or Canadian beer, I do not like it as much as Corona or Dos Equis, my usual brands, and the price is significantly higher. I think that if you like Bud brand beer anyway, you may really like this new product, but I will be going back to my usual beer and buying a real lime the next time I want a beer.
