That Girl: There Was a Time Ann Met a Pie Man is an episode I’ve always remembered, mainly because of the central theme of the show and the publicity that it received when it first aired on ABC. While actress Ann Marie has made progress in her career, she’s conflicted over accepting the latest job offer.

She wonders if it’s not dignified and such. However, it pays good money and her boyfriend Don Hollinger tells her it’s just a job and she should do it.

Basically, while all glammed up, Ann walks down a staircase and gets slammed with a fluffy cream pie. It’s perfectly funny, given the setup. She’s so beautiful,

      • dressed in an elegant gown and wearing jewels, and then she gets a pie in her face. That’s a recipe for laughter and has been through the ages.

After Ann performs in the show and it’s all done, Ann feels humiliated, and her father is angry about it, too. I really didn’t get all of this in

that it just seemed like filler. I like the episode and the comedy bit, but all the drama afterwards just seemed too much. Ann’s come a long way, but not enough to feel so incensed. After all, she began by playing a mop.

Still, this is a memorable show. It’s one I’ve recalled with smiles over the decades.
