This episode of Hawaii Five-O is the first time that Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord) gets shot. It happens on the beach as he’s out for a job and right after he’s just rescued a little boy from drowning. As McGarrett fights for

his life, Danny Williams (James McArthur) works hard to catch the would-be killer.

Lord isn’t seen much in the show. In fact, he has the first scene and then the final scene, and other than that, he’s only mentioned. Perhaps he needed a week off for some reason, but he’s normally so prevalent in each of the plots that it’s unusual to see him out of action and off the screen for much of the show.

It is fun, though, to see the Williams character get to be ...

in charge and using his skills and talents. It shows he can do more than book the bad guys at the end.

The last scene is especially nice. It’s the ‘way to go’ from the boss, and it’s touching. McGarrett and

Williams are more than co-workers, but there is never a lot of emotion surrounding that, considering the era, so the scene is somewhat of a double duty thing, with each glad to be talking again.

Hawaii Five-O: Yesterday Died and Tomorrow Won’t Be Born is a very good show.
