Johnny Crawford guest stars as a soldier on leave in Hawaii Five-O: By the Numbers. Crawford is best know for playing Mark McCain on The Rifleman. He had a harder time as he got older to get parts because he was so identifiable as Mark. I have to admit that even here, his looks and his voice just

shout, “I played Mark McCain.” He’s a wonderful actor, though, but it’s probably been a blessing and a curse to have done such an excellent job in the old western.

In By the Numbers, Crawford portrays Corporal Jerry Franklin who is on leave from the war and waiting for his wife to come in by bus. She just never shows ...

      • up, and he fears that she’s not coming. His pain and fears lead him to make a bad choice and end up involved with a good-for-nothing woman who tries to take advantage of Jerry, setting up to take the rap for a murder she commits.

Anne Helm, who has always turned in wonderful performances throughout her career, guest stars as Irene

Park, the victimizer mentioned above. Will Kuluva is the victim.

There are a couple of noteworthy appearances in the supporting cast, including James McEachin and Richard Benedict.

I enjoyed Hawaii Five-O: By the Numbers. It’s good to see both Crawford and Helm, and I liked the way that McGarrett tried to help the young and lost Jerry. The ending was really nice.
