The Jamaican radio personality Alan Magnus has worked on Real Jamaican Radio or RJR as it is most commonly known for a very long time. In fact, I think he might just be the radio personality working there the longest. One can listen to him on weekday mornings from five o clock in the mornings to minutes to nine in the mornings as well these days with another personality Paula-Ann Porter. However, these days I don’t listen to him much since I got turned off from listening to him on weekdays a couple years ago when I was still in high school.

The main reason why I used to

listen to the radio was so that I could hear music when I was going to school. My parents have been listening to the same radio station, RJR for years and thus on weekdays I would wake up at 5am in the morning in order to reach school before 7:35am and the radio would be on from I woke up till when I got to school in the mornings. I would normally look forward to Mr. Magnus playing a popular song for the “Million Selling Selections” at six fifteen in the mornings, another popular song afterwards before he would play a reggae song; and I would also listen to ...

      • what would be played for “Music in the love Spot”. However, over the years I found that it became very easy to predict what he would play as he would play the same songs very frequently. Some of the more frequent songs were country music songs such as “Write Your Name” by Kenny Rogers, a few Norah Jones songs and a few other songs which I had started out liking but detested after a while. I especially detested the rare times when he would play songs I actually liked and then cut the song right before it reached the middle of it so I would never ever get
a chance to hear even the bridge.

These days I’m out of school and in university and he still works on the radio. I don’t listen to that radio station or even the radio on a whole as much since even when I am heading into town I normally listen to my mp3 player or CD player so I can tune out what is normally played on the radio. He, Mr. ALan Magnus used to appeal to me when I was much younger, but these days the only time he holds any interest for me is when he is about to give an interesting commentary or fact on the radio.
