Diefenbaker’s Day Off is the next regular episode of the first season of Due South, and it’s pretty funny. Canadian Mountie Benton Fraser tells his wolf, Diefenbaker, that he needs a license, but he’s having trouble getting one. It could be because Dief, as he’s commonly called, is deaf,

or maybe it’s that he’s a wolf. Either way, Fraser wants Dief to stay inside while he goes to work.

I love how Fraser has conversations with Dief. This is my kind of human/animal relationship. It’s completely mutual, and I adore it. In this little chat, he informs ...

      • Dief about Animal Control, but not as villains, as civic employees doing their jobs.

The brunt of this little tale, though, has Dief exploring the city while Fraser is at work. Naturally, he eventually comes into contact with one of this Animal Control employees, and the chase was on. Fortunately,

Fraser’s partner comes through with a fake license just in time. It’s also funny because every now and then Fraser has a sense, or smell, that Dief is around, but he shrugs it off. It’s just very cute to watch.

I liked this episode of Due South. The dog is great!
