Before last year I had ever heard of this film. In fact, when I first saw the title of it on the televsion guide I had mistaken it for a romance movie which I think might have been set in the mid nineteenth century. However, when I watched the movie I realised that it was actually a drama film starring the young actress Camilla Belle from movies such as RIp Girls and 10,000 B.C. as well as another actor Daniel Day-Lewis who played a

main character in the 2004 film “Gangs of New York”.

I liked the movie since it had an “indie film” feel to it since I tend to like and respect most independent drama films a lot more than I tend to respect many big budget movies. What stuck out was the acting whereas I don’t remember Camilla Belle having a lot of lines in the movie at first especially, but I could still sense every emotion coming from her from unmistakable anger and rebellion ...

      • in the most subtle ways to sadness and isolation.

The movie is about a man Jack and his teenage daughter ROse who have been living alone for years in a small community with very few people. At the first part of the movie though Jack begins to fear what the isolation from other teens and people are beginning to do to her and thus he invites someone and her sons to live with him. Rose ends up rebelling and losing her virginity to a

teenage boy one night who broadcasts what he has done to her father. Life begins to get chaotic as Rose rebells more and more until she and Jack finally develop an incestuous relationship and Jack dies of his heart condition.

I would recommend this to poeple who like independent drama films as I was aching for a good independent film to watch at the time I first watched this, and I still believe it is one of the best I have seen to date.
