    • Item: Tara Cinemas (theatre) Location: Cheshire Bridge Road/ Atlanta GA by: Famous

If you’re looking for an “out of the way” place to see a good independent film, check out the Tara. This movie theatre has been open for many many years.

It was the place where I first saw The Blair Witch Project in theatres.

I have found that many obscure titles that seem to go straight to video–actually bypass major theatres, hit the Tara Cinemas, and then go to DVD.

They have a lot of movies which are really popular on the cinematic “underground” circuit.

But they also take risks, in showing films which are very cutting edge.

      • Most of the movies I’ve seen that are NC-17, have been viewed at the Tara theatre.

Lots of art house films and documentaries also premiere at this movie house.

The interior (and exterior for that matter) are very unassuming.

There are no real bells and whistles.

        The snack counter is

        just like any other theatre.

But what makes this one special is the clientele.

Usually, people that see movies here are serious about their movie watching.

There are few times (if any) when patrons have to be ’shushed’.

Conceivably, I could watch all movies at this theatre–if only they showed everything I wanted to see.
