The Camping World Truck Series 2009 Michigan 200 was held today with Brian Ickler on the pole. Kyle Busch began the race, too, even though he had Nationwide Series qualifying later in the day in another city. Any rain delay or overabundance of cautions would interfere with that, so it was an interesting choice.

There was the obligatory early-race caution when James Buescher and Brian Scott got together, and then after that, the trucks were going full tilt. After the caution, it was Busch out

      in front.

I was bummed when on Lap 29, there was a multi-truck wreck that gave a lot of damage to several trucks, including Stacy Compton. I really don’t know much about Compton, but he’s done some commentary on ESPN, and I always liked his attitude and style, so I root for him a little bit and hate it when he gets taken out of a race like this. The wreck was caused by Ron Hornaday and Chad McCumbee getting together. One was going up ...

      • the track and the other down. Compton just had no place to go but right into the crashing trucks.

The race had barely gotten under way again when Ickler got into David Starr and caused a huge wreck that involved several trucks, including Johnny Sauter, Mike Skinner, Timothy Peters, T.J. Bell, and Todd Bodine. That was one dramatic wreck, but even so, most of these drivers were right back on the track before the green waved again.

There was an exciting lead change with about 24 to

go when Busch went low to pass Norm Benning, who didn’t let up at all. This let Colin Braun zoom by Busch. That was a cool move and had me hopeful that he’d hold on to the lead. I can’t stand Busch and just cringe when he wins anything.

Fortunately, Braun held on, winning easily over Busch with Ickler coming in third. It was amazing to see all the crashed trucks that came back for strong finishes. This was a pretty entertaining race today.
