This 1959 Doris Day movie, It Happened to Jane, is one of my favorite Day productions. It costars Jack Lemmon, and Lemmon is just top notch. He and Day are wacky and adorable together. For most of the film, they’re just friends with underlying love that has never been spoken aloud.

Day plays Jane Osgood, a lobster merchant of sorts. She catches

the lobsters and sends them to market. That’s how she supports her two children. Lemmon stars as George Denham, the mild-mannered best friend who does everything he can to help Jane and her family. He’s been there for her since they were children, and naturally was there when her husband died. He’s a good man, a scout leader, and he cares ...

        to go. It’s hysterical.

Another wonderful moment as Jane battles the corporate world is when she appears on What’s My Line? which was the leading game show in America for almost twenty years.

I love most everything about It Happened to Jane. It’s a fun, family film. It’s the little guy versus big business, and it’s true love prevailing. That works for me.
