This is another of my very top favorite Doris Day films, and it co-stars James Garner. These two make a great film pair, and I wish they’d done more than this movie and Move Over, Darling.

In this flick, Day stars as Beverly Boyer, happy housewife and mother. Her husband is the affable Gerald Boyer, who delivers babies. I put it this way because one

of my absolute favorite moments is towards the end when the couple return home and their children ask if Daddy delivered a baby. The answer is yet. “Did Mommy help?” Well, the answer was yes. So, naturally, they wanted to see their new baby brother or sister. It’s a whole lot cuter on screen than it is being written about here. I ...

      • just adore it.

Another priceless moment is when Garner comes home late and then realizes it’s about to rain. He wants to park his convertible and ends up driving it straight into the pool in the backyard. What makes this so hysterical is that he didn’t know they had a pool; it had been built during the day.

This is because Beverly is becoming the spokesperson for

a popular detergent, and that is what threatens the Boyer’s happy home.

More fun times happen with the kids, who stay up to watch their mommy’s live commercial every week. They easily recognize the re-used theme for the TV program and end up saying it before it happens. That was just too funny.

There’s plenty of romance in The Thrill of It All, and it’s a wonderful picture.
