Cat Ballou is a funny western starring Jane Fonda and Lee Marvin, as well as a host of others who bring this musical to its hysterical heights. Fonda plays the lead role, Cat being short for Catherine. Her father, played by John Marley, is murdered, and she vows revenge, getting

help from Michael Callan and Dwayne Hickman. My favorite performer, though, has always been Tom Nardini. I just thought he was cute and adorable. He actually starred with Chuck Conners in a series called Cowboy in Africa, and I really loved that show, especially Nardini. His career fizzled ...

      • after that, but I’ve always remembered him.

The best part about Cat Ballou is actually the singing narration, provided visually and vocally by the great Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye. These two pop up throughout the movie to further the story and highlight transitions. They are spectacular. I’ll watch

the movie a lot just to hear them perform.

Marvin is excellent as the drunken gunfighter Cat hires to help avenge her father’s death, and Callan is thoroughly handsome and pleasant as Cat’s suitor.

Cat Ballou is a fun western. It does have drama and angst, but mostly, it’s just plain fun.
