  • It's really a great piece of footage to see, so I think about Swayze and City of Joy whenever I watch Singin' in the Rain
  • Reynolds is just an amazing actress, and she proved it very early in this starring role
  • Unfortunately, many screen legends of the silent age just didn't have the voices to make it in the talkies, and that's what is portrayed here, with Reynolds being hired to dub the voice of Kelly's screen star
  • Singin' in the Rain is definitely a winner

Singin’ in the Rain is a really good musical from 1952 that continues to thrill audiences all these years later. People remember this movie and the awesome dance sequences staged by star Gene Kelly, who also director along with Stanley Donen. I always think about Patrick Swayze who just loved Gene Kelly. When Swayze was filming City of Joy in India, there was a scene where his character and the Indians had

to be rejoicing and celebrating while it was raining, pouring actually. They piped over the public address system, the song Singin’ in the Rain for everyone to dance to. It’s really a great piece of footage to see, so I think about Swayze and City of Joy whenever I watch Singin’ in the Rain.

This movie was the big break for the fantastic Debbie Reynolds. She didn’t lose a step to Kelly and ...

      • their other co-star, Donald O’Connor. The three of them did some great singing and dancing together. Who can forget the three of them landing on that sofa and getting it to flip over? That took timing. Reynolds is just an amazing actress, and she proved it very early in this starring role.

The movie focuses on the time in movie history when the silent pictures were being phased out, replaced by talkies.

Unfortunately, many screen legends of the silent age just didn’t have the voices to make it in the talkies, and that’s what is portrayed here, with Reynolds being hired to dub the voice of Kelly’s screen star. Romance ensues, and both a star and a couple is born.

Singin’ in the Rain is definitely a winner! Gene Kelly’s dance where he is actually singing in the rain is still legendary to this day.
