One of the most classic motion picture musicals is Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, a 1953 release that stars the unforgettable Marilyn Monroe. The blonde was the sensation of her day, and this movie is the equivalent to her theme song. Of course, it contains the song that is probably the most associated number to

Monroe — Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend. The song is legendary.

Brunette bombshell, the buxomly Jayne Russell co-stars in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She has an equal opportunity to shine here, both with Monroe and on her own. She and Monroe do a great job with the Two Girls from Little Rock number.

      • It’s one I enjoy quite a bit.

My favorite numbers are the ones where I can spot a very young Robert Fuller, who is part of the chorus. Most people know Fuller as a western actor or from the TV show, Emergency! He put in a lot of time, though, as a dancer

and chorus boy before becoming an extra and stunt man. He’s very visible in the ‘Diamonds’ number, if you know where to look. He’s in others, too, like the pool scene with Russell.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is a good story, that has some great laughs, along with the obligatory happy ending. I like it.
