Brigadoon is an MGM musical from 1954 that still delights to this day. It’s a quieter fare than most, but it has a genuine quality to it that lulls the viewer in. This movie is relevant to today, too, because we’re still in such a rat race, fighting traffic, peers, and economics to be our best and earn money

for survival. Isn’t there more than honking horns, cell phones, and business meetings? The technology might be different, but that’s really what Brigadoon is about — finding simplicity and learning to love it.

In this very different tale, New Yorkers Gene Kelly and Van Johnson head off for some peace and quiet, backpacking through the countryside of Ireland. All ...

      • of a sudden, they come upon a quaint village, a charming place called Brigadoon. Kelly is immediately attracted to Cyd Cyrisse, who returns the instant affection.

As the story continues, we learn the magic of Brigadoon. It’s full of fantasy, and there will be many disbelievers, but the story is enchanting, and it’s the kind of thing that people dream

of when they long for a quieter way of life.

Ultimately, Kelly’s own faith is tested, and that leads us to the ending.

There’s a lot of song and dance in Brigadoon, with Kelly, Cyrisse, and Johnson all hoofing it on multiple occasions. In the end, it’s a couple of hours where you can relax and believe in the purity and wonder of absolute love.
