NBA 09: The Inside is a basketball game developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, San Diego Studios. It is merged with Red Zone Interactive and 989 Sports who are known for developing classic basketball games such as the NBA ShootOut and NCAA Final Four series.

If you’re looking for a realistic basketball experience, this game is definitely not the one you want to pick up from the shelves. Sure, it’s arcade oriented style of basketball will have you amused for a while but it just doesn’t deliver to the players that NBA basketball authenticity. First things first, the AI will practically

sync every mid-range jumpers and shots behind the arc like they borrowed Larry Bird’s soul. It is so ridiculous that even Shaq can start making it rain from the three point line. I didn’t mention shots from the paint purposely because you can easily swat them with your big men. With the NBA finals going on right now and the motto being “Anything can happen”, this sure goes out to this game too. Seeing Jason Kidd dunking on Yao Ming will have you wondering if you’re playing NBA Jam. You can easily have a field goal percentage of 90% ...

      • and up just by driving in the paint. Defensively, the AI will try it’s best to guard you but it is very easy to use juke moves to shake them out of your way and that is on any difficulty setting . Besides that, the game features a wide array of mini-games such as Horse, Dodgeball, Shootin’ Bricks, Bang the Boards and the list goes on. They are quite fun to play but you probably won’t spend a lot of time playing them.

Visually, the graphics for this game are quite stunning for a handheld game. The players run smoothly

down the court and they somewhat have lifelike player movements. NBA stars are indeed recognizable. The jerseys are clear-cut, the arenas look good but the crowd could need some work. For the sound, the commentary is delivered by Kevin Calabro of the Seattle Sonics and Kenny Smith. As usual in sports games, you’ll hear them repeat themselves while playing exhibition games.

Overall, NBA 09: The Inside is an okay basketball game. The mini games are more interesting to play than the actual basketball game itself. I would only recommend you to buy this game if you absolutely need a NBA portable game.
