I adore Lucy Gallant. It’s a film about the Texas oil boom. Jane Wyatt plays the title role of Lucy Gallant, a woman running away from her old love and who ends up stranded right in the middle of oil country. She quickly meets the tall and

strapping Casey Cole, played by Charlton Heston, and the sparks fly.

Soon, Lucy sets her sights on starting a store stocked with women’s fashions. Her trousseau is full of Paris fashions that she no longer needs and, realizing the citizens of this thriving boomtown are ripe for fashion, Lucy sells just about everything she owns. She tries to get a loan, but is met with resistance.

Ultimately, Gallants because a gigantic success in Texas, so much so that finally, someone tries to undermine Lucy, getting the board of directors to oust her. Before that, it had been a fire ...

that had challenged the longevity of Gallant’s.

The love affair between Lucy and Casey spans years and is full of bad timing instances. They’re madly in love, but they continue to let things interfere. Will they ever get together? The tension is massive, but the answer is so

      much fun.

This movie was filmed before Heston became a huge star. Once he exploded on the scene the next year in The Ten Commandments, it was re-released under the title Oil Town with him getting a huge billing push.

Regardless, I’ve always enjoyed Lucy Gallant. It’s a wonderful movie with a strong cast.
