The Trouble with Angels is magnificent. It’s a terrific comedy about two rambunctious teenagers attending school at a Catholic convent. The two are full of life and always get into trouble. Just when the Mother Superior is about to give them the heave-ho, she meets their families and her heart softens. Now, she has a special understanding of these two, and while

they continue to exasperate her, she won’t abandon them.

The remarkable Rosalind Russell stars as Mother Superior. She’s still very much into the traditional Catholic way of doing things. The energetic teens are played by the marvelous Hayley Mills and June Harding. Mills is fantastic in anything she does, and she’s a favorite of mine.

I particularly adore watching Mary Wickes as Sister Clarissa.

      • She drives the convent’s bus, and she’s just a spirited thing. Wickes is always colorful in her portrayals.

One of the best moments in the film is when one of the sisters dies, and it’s not the one that might be assumed to do so. Mills’ character grows up in that moment, and she makes a decision that her best friend has a difficult time

        abiding in.

The Trouble with Angels is full of antics from the two teenagers. Most of the movie is just one romp after another, with a few poignant and serious moments in between. It covers a few years in time, showing how the teenagers become young women. I love this film. It’s an enduring standard that I watch just about every time it comes on TV.
