  • Gidget Goes to Rome is the weakest of the first three movies, but it definitely wasn't the end of the franchise

The third Gidget movie was entitled Gidget Goes to Rome. It marks the last time that James Darren would appear as the very handsome and ‘oh, I’m swooning’ when I see him, Moondoggie. He was happy to move on from the character, though he understands its place in his career. Regardless, Darren struts his stuff one

more time here, and I for one loved it.

Cindy Carol gets her chance as Gidget this time around. She’s cute and bubbly, making her a very good Gidget for the big screen. She does a lot of growing up here when Gidget Goes to Rome and falls for an older man. Of course, we all know ...

      • that her heart really belongs to Moondoggie.

Gidget Goes to Rome is the weakest of the first three movies, but it definitely wasn’t the end of the franchise. There was a lot more Gidget after this one.

Jeff Donnell returns as Gidget’s mother, but her father this time around is Don Porter. The parents have a much smaller role

in this picture than they did in the first two..

Gidget Goes to Rome is very predictable as most these lighthearted romantic comedies are. The story continues on the romance of Gidget and Moondoggie adequately, giving us all the angst of separation and then the joy of reunion. It’s good, just not as good as the first two.
