This is the third Joshua movie and it’s the third set of daughters. The original casting was the best. You just can’t beat the combination of Buddy Ebsen, Karen Valentine, Lesley Ann Warren, and Sandra Dee. There’s a lot of talent there. When ’s daughters ‘returned’ in the sequel, they were played by Dan Dailey, Ronne Troop, Christina Hart, and Brooke Adams.

In this latest incarnation, Joshua is

played by John McIntire, who is also a sheriff and not just a farmer anymore. He’s probably the strongest of the three ’s in terms of stance and posture. His three ’surrogate’ daughters are played by Renne Jarrett, Louise ‘Liberty’ Williams, and Leslie Dalton. Jarrett is the only fun one of the bunch. She’s long been a favorite of mine, but of this cast, she’s the only standout, and ...

      • regrettably, the odds are most people reading this don’t even know who she is.

’s daughters (who individually were a hooker, pickpocket, and thief when first we met them) hatch a plan to rescue Cabe from jail after he was falsely accused of murder and is sentenced to hang. The one tie-in to the first movie is that Jack Elam returns as Cabe’s friend, Bitterroot. He wasn’t part of the second movie.

Dub Taylor played the part in it.

The New Daughters of Joshua Cabe is okay, but it’s not what Ebsen’s movie was, and frankly, it’s not even close to the Dailey version. Still, I’m a sucker for this kind of movie so I like it. If it were on TV, I’d watch it.

It does have a nice cast of supporting players which includes John Dehner, Larry Hovis, Sean McClory, and Ford Rainey.
