I absolutely adore Man of the House, which is a simple romantic comedy from 1995 which stars Chevy Chase, Farrah Fawcett, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who was probably the biggest child star of the 90’s, at least on television. In this film, Thomas plays Ben Archer, whose father leaves him (and his mother, of course) for his secretary. Ben was just a little boy, and he and his mother Sandy (Fawcett)

created a happy life for themselves, moving to a loft on the beach. After a time, Sandy becomes involved with a district attorney named Jack Sturgess (Chase), and when they decide they want to make the arrangement permanent, Ben declares war on Jack.

In his rebellion, Ben does anything he can think of to bug Jack, even setting him up for all kinds of funny situations. The real fun comes when he ...

      • and Jack join the Indian Guides. Along the line, Ben starts to believe in Jack, and the game grows serious, until the time comes when Jack ultimately, though unintentionally, lets him down.

Man of the House is awesome. The rain dance scene is absolutely hysterical and wonderful. All of Ben’s antics as he tries to get Jack are hysterical, and when Jack finally catches on and gets even in a way,

        things take off yet again.

Fawcett is more of a minor player here. This movie was directed by her boyfriend at the time, which more or less explained her agreeing to make it. Chase is great. This is his type of humor. Thomas is fantastic. He narrates the story in places, and it comes off very genuine.

I adore Man of the House. It’s one of my favorite films of the 90’s.
