The Nationwide Series continued with its Memorial Weekend race called the 2009 The Carquest Auto Parts 300. Carl Edwards on the pole. All day long, they’d been fighting weather, and the race actually started with a green/yellow situation. A few laps in, the cars were finally released to race away.

What was fun about the 2009 The Carquest Auto Parts 300 race was watching several of the cars at the back just burst forward extremely fast. Kyle

Busch had started last due to an engine change, and he was so good that by the end of the first truly green lap, he’d passed 19 cars. Now that’s good. Of course, he was so good that by Lap 41, he’d passed Edwards to take the lead.

Another big gainer was Brad Keselowski, who was actually using his third car for the weekend. The first two had suffered electrical and mechanical issues resulting in crashes. At ...

      • the start of this race, I don’t believe he’d had any drive time in the third vehicle, but he fought his way into the top ten in about forty or so laps and ultimately finished in the eighth position.

There was some good racing and a few small incidents, such as Michael Annett spinout, but there weren’t any big crashes. With 34 to go, Brendan Gaughan took the lead. He’d started 15th. Unfortunately, he couldn’t hold onto it,

and Mike Bliss passed him. Two or three laps later, rain came and NASCAR eventually called the race, giving Bliss the win. I don’t like Bliss, so I wasn’t happy, but it was raining.

Edwards finished 10th and ended up being something like 77 points behind Busch now for the overall championship since Busch finished third.

The race had moments, but it wasn’t anything to really write home about, and with my favorites out of it, I didn’t care much about the results.
