These days, air travel is such a hassle. When you finally make it onto the plane, you just want to relax, but most airlines offer few amenities and make you feel like herded cattle. Virgin America seeks to change this, and at very affordable prices.

As you walk onto the plane, you can tell immediately that Virgin pays attention to detail in ways that other airlines do not. You are greeted by friendly attendants in stylish uniforms; soothing purple mood-lighting emanates down the interior walls of the plane, and relaxing electronic music plays as you walk to your seat. You immediately

notice the plane is new and in pristine condition, and the seats are plush leather and very inviting. Even the emergency procedures video is entertaining and well made. However, the best is yet to come.

That nine inch touch-screen on the back of the seat in front you? It is not your typical airline movie screen. “Red: An Interactive Environment” provides endless entertainment and amenities during your flight, which you navigate using a hand held remote with keypad found in your armrest. You can watch live TV, listen to the radio or MP3s, play video games, or order special TV episodes (like ...

      • True Blood or Flight of the Concords) or watch recently released movies (they are $8 each). You can even chat with other players via your kepad.

The best part, however, is that you can order food and drinks and the attendant shows up minutes later, like magic, with your order. No more waiting for the cart or having to yell your order across two other passengers! And unlike most airline food, Virgin offers selections such as cheese boxes and Italian sandwiches, and from what I have sampled, the food is very good. Also for your entertainment (or productivity), most flights now

offer WiFi for a nominal fee, and you can even charge your laptop from your seat. Conveniently, you can swipe your credit card from your seat to pay for these services, eliminating the need to carry cash on board.

The bad news is that currently, Virgin America offers service to only nine cities in the United States: New York, Seattle, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, Las Vegas, Boston and Washington, DC. But due to their success they are expanding quickly, which is a good thing, because once you fly Virgin America, flying any other airline will be a huge letdown.
