I have been examining a few new vehicles lately, because my current vehicle lease is up in a few weeks, so I have been doing much research as well as speaking to as many people as I can before I have to make my decision. I decided to go to a Toyota dealership to speak to someone about the Toyota FJ, so I drove to Jim Pattison Toyota in Surrey, BC, without an appointment, to see if I could find out some information about pricing and maybe take an FJ for a drive.

My husband and I were wandering around the showroom, and did not see an FJ inside, but almost immediately we were approached by a gentleman who introduced himself as Surjit, a ‘Product Advisor.’ We told him what we wanted to talk about, and right away he asked

us if we wanted to lease or buy, and when he found out that we wanted to lease, he told us that his sales manager had an FJ demo that he was currently driving, and we could take it for a test drive right away. He arranged it within minutes, and we actually got to speak to the manager to ask him some questions regarding the vehicle. We were able to get answers from someone who was actually driving it, like gas mileage, handling, space, power and comfort. Then we went for a long test drive, both on the highway and on a windy, bumpy road, which is the only way to really test it out. We then got back to the showroom, and Surjit took us into his office to talk some pricing.

The pricing part of the negotiations of ...

      • buying a vehicle is always the part I do not enjoy at all; I usually feel a bit intimidated, and we had just been to another dealership where the sales manager had given us a confusing array of pricing options, all with various interest rates and outside financing companies. I braced myself for the same thing here, but Surjit simply gave us two prices-one for buying, and one for leasing. It was as simple and clear as that. He gave us a print-out for each, after determining which options we required, and then said that if we did take the demo, which happened to be the colour we wanted, we would be getting a discount for the mileage that was on it-which was only 2,000 km. The interest rate for the lease was under 4%, which was a far better
rate than the Ford dealership had quoted us the previous day. Surjit made it simple, and I did not in any way feel rushed, intimidated or pushed to make a quick decision, and both Surjit and his sales manager were not slick and smooth-talking whatsoever.

We left the dealership feeling satisfied, and Surjit assured us that we could let him know if we wanted to go ahead and lease the demo FJ, or if we wanted a different colour or options package, he would get that one in for us within a week. We still have not made a decision on a vehicle, but our experience at Jim Pattison Toyota is definitely making us lean toward leasing a vehicle from this company. This dealership treats customers with integrity, and is a good place to visit when looking for a new vehicle.
