  • The romance part of the story with Armand Assante isn't as much fun as the military antics in my opinion, and I wish the movie hadn't ended so much on that part of the story as it did

Goldie Hawn stars in Private Benjamin, a wonderful comedy that really shows off her talents. Judy Benjamin is a spoiled rich girl whose husband dies on their wedding night. Confused and depressed, she joins the Army, only she’s joined the ones seen in the commercials and the brochures, not the one with boot camp.

It’s a scary wake up call that Private Benjamin gets when she learns there’s no turning back.

The new recruit makes a quick enemy out of Captain Doreen Lewis, and that’s a lot of the fun of the movie. Eileen Brennan plays this part with wonder. She has the perfect sass for this type of role.

      • favorite scene is when Judy leads her team to victory in the war games, shocking Lewis. It’s a priceless moment. Another fun moment is the scene when she jumps out of the airplane. I also love the bit when she’s overseas and works for a boss that no one can understand but her.

        The romance

part of the story with Armand Assante isn’t as much fun as the military antics in my opinion, and I wish the movie hadn’t ended so much on that part of the story as it did. It makes it all a bit soap opera-like. Regardless, Private Benjamin is a terrific comedy with a solid cast.
