Field of Dreams is one terrific motion picture. It has that special magical quality that takes a film beyond being just good. Kevin Costner and Amy Madigan star as a happily wed couple who buy a farm in Iowa. As they proceed with making a successful life there, Ray (Costner) suddenly hears a voice, and eventually, he determines that the voice wants him to cut down his cornfield and

build a baseball field. Incredibly, his wife goes along with it.

Then Ray surmises he’s suppose to go to New York City to track down a 60’s pacifist, Terrence Mann. He’s really not sure why, except that they are supposed to attend a baseball game together. After that, the two go in search of Moonlight Graham, who played a mere half-inning of a major league baseball game.

Ultimately, Ray discovers the reason for ...

      • everything that has happened, and it wasn’t anything like he thought. When it happens, it’s an emotional moment for all.

This movie speaks to the heart. It’s all about belief and faith. Ray had to give a lot without questioning why or what was in it for him. It was his belief that got him an incredible gift. It’s a lesson for all of us, in my opinion.

        James

Earl Jones is out of this world as Terrence Mann. He’s fun and wise, apathetic and passionate — he’s everything, and it’s great to watch him play this part.

Ray Liotta was superb as Shoeless Joe Jackson, the dead baseball player who brings his friends out to play ball in Ray’s field. He was mysterious and exciting, both.

Field of Dreams is a dream. I watch it often and never tire of it.
