There have been many versions of Freaky Friday since the first filming of Mary Rodgers book, but it is the one that I still enjoy the most. Sure some of it is dated, having been filmed in the 1970’s and with most of that ages fashion shown in full effect, but the performances are still so engaging and the comedy and truths revealed still so timeless that it adds

      to the film’s charm.

Annabel Andrews (Jodie Foster) and her mother (Barbara Harris) have not been able to bridge the generation gap that seems to exist year after year. Anabel is messy and a tomboy, while Mrs. Andrews is the picture of reliability and the perfect wife and mother. Well, not so perfect a mother, in Annabel’s eyes. On one special Friday the 13th, the Freaky Friday of the title,

      • they get to see how it feels to be in one another’s shoes. Quite literally. Now in one another’s body they must see the problems that they face regularly and that each life is not as easy as it appears.

The performances by both the ladies in the leads are terrific. Foster gives us a glimpse into the actress she will become. However, in many ways, it is Harris’ film

to me. The way she acts, with Foster giving amusing narration into her thoughts, as a girl in a woman’s body is hilarious. I particularly enjoy her scenes with neighbour, and crush, Marc McClure. I’m not quite so fond of Mrs. Andrews when she is not possessed by Annabel but when she is it is as funny as funny gets. Harris is a unique actress and this role showcases her fantastically.
