At the time of its release, many critics were apt to complain about the casting of Grease. They thought that the ages of the actors, playing much younger characters, was a hindrance and that the film would suffer. The huge box office that this fun and extremely lovable film proved them all quite wrong, even though they were still found to nitpick many things about the film.

I don’t share their loathing at all. I went through a very strong

Grease phase (I watched it about 3 times every single day, during my childhood) and I still love the film just as much today.

Spinning the wildly romantic tale of high-school love between Danny (John Travolta) and Sandy (Olivia Newton John) admist them and their school mates bursting into sudden song. And what songs there are! From the opening strains of Grease (not the first song in the film that belongs to Love is a Many Splendoured Thing) to the ...

      • ending reprise of that very song, Grease offers up catchy melody after catchy melody. Summer Nights was a huge hit in Britain, with many passing bars commonally hearing patrons singing it, and You’re the One That I Want reached #1 on the Billboard charts.

There are plenty of good performances from Travolta and John, to Stockard Channing as Pink Lady, Rizzo, to Jeff Conway as Danny’s best friend, Kenicke. Channing was one of the cast criticized for her age

along with Olivia, but it hardly matters when a performance is this good.

It’s a well-known fact that most girls adore this movie. It’s also almost as well known a fact that the boys are also quite fond of the ending of the film, where Sandy dons a tight black leather suit and tells Danny what he must do to keep her love. I don’t know if the men are listening to the lyrics but they sure are looking at that outfit!
