A classic movie is one that lasts through the ages, and Ben-Hur is definitely one of those. It’s an epic motion picture produced with high quality everything. It won 11 Academy Awards. The masterful and commanding Charlton Heston took home one of those, winning the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Judah Ben-Hur.

turns in a nice performance, too, as Messala, who goes from friend to foe in the course of this long motion picture. This is the politics of the movie as these two childhood friends can rejoice in seeing each other again only so long before their differences take hold. Ben-Hur is Jewish, and Messala is Roman,

      • and that just wasn’t a good mix at this point in time.

What most people remember about Ben-Hur is the dramatic chariot race. It certainly is the biggest action moment of the film. I liked it better as a child. Now I’m too much of an animal lover to enjoy that scene. It’s an essential

        part of this film, though.

Now, I enjoy more of the acting subtleties, like with Martha Scott, who plays Miriam. One of the most poignant part of the movie Ben-Hur is how Ben-Hur’s mother and sister are imprisoned and then sent to the leper colony. The scene when Ben-Hur finds them is heartbreaking in so many ways.

        Ben-Hur is definitely a classic.
