  • Jason Statham is great as the man guy (I don't remember the character's name though) who competes against stiff odds to try and escape the prison, find his baby daughter, and avoid the authorities in the process, all while coping with the death of his wife

Death Race is a 2008 movie starring Jason Statham as a man wrongly convicted of murdering his wife. In reality, he was set up by a crazy warden of a private prison because he is a great driver, and she needs someone to compete in her Death Race. Yes, this was an awesome movie!

Pros: This movie does not pretend to

be any great piece of cinema. It sets out to entertain and it does exactly that. Jason Statham is great as the man guy (I don’t remember the character’s name though) who competes against stiff odds to try and escape the prison, find his baby daughter, and avoid the authorities in the process, all while coping with the death of his wife. In addition, he learns that one of his fellow inmates was the person who killed his wife. The action scenes in this movie are great! The cars look awesome with all of their machine guns, shields and various devices. There is not a plot to speak of, but it is enough to hold the movie together. Statham ...

is a very likeable actor and his charisma wins you over to his side immediately. Also, Joan Allen is great as the warden. She is a psychopath. Finally, the guy who played Machine Gun Joe was cool. I had a feeling he was going to last a while.

Cons: There is no great dialogue. I will not remember

one line from this movie. Also, the addition of the beautiful navigators for each of the racers was a little silly. I have never seen female convicts who look like that!

Overall: Death Race is two hours of almost non-stop action! Even my wife, who hates movies like this, said it was at least “entertaining.” I give it a 7 out of 10.

I like Jason Statham. I have seen most of his movies including this one and enjoyed it immensely. We was glued to the T.V. It was packed with action and had a great story line.
