  • This laptop is a great home laptop with nice multimedia features, it has a 15.4 inch LCD monitor, that's great for on-the-go computing, though it is an old model its still very slime and portable, it has an upgradeable 40 Gigabyte hard drive, which I think is very limited for use in modern computing, it has weak Intel integrated extreme graphics 2 for mobile graphics adapter with 64 megabytes of graphics memory, and a limited graphics OpenGL and Direct3D configurability, it support DirectX 6.0 which is obviously weak and obsolete for today's modern games like Crysis, Farcry 2, and Grand Theft Auto IV
  • I have had this laptop for 5 years now and about 4 years after purchasing it the hinges on the monitor got really weak, to the point where the monitor would need to be let down into the secure closed position so it would not slam shut, so this was an issue, and a pain to replace the (easily findable) hinges for this laptop

This laptop is a great home laptop with nice multimedia features, it has a 15. 4 inch LCD monitor, that’s great for on-the-go computing, though it is an old model its still very slime and portable, it has an “upgradeable” 40 Gigabyte hard drive, which I think is very limited for use in modern computing, it has weak Intel integrated extreme graphics 2 for mobile graphics adapter with 64 megabytes of graphics memory, and a limited graphics OpenGL and Direct3D configurability, it support DirectX 6. 0 which is obviously weak and obsolete for today’s modern games like Crysis, Farcry 2, and Grand Theft Auto IV.

Now obviously this is not a computer for gaming more then some Internet Flash games, but it does get the job done if you’re not a gamer or even interested in games. As for as the memory goes in this laptop goes, it came with 256 megabytes of RAM, but a year after purchasing this laptop I realized that I would need more memory for the applications I was going to run on this laptop, so I

did purchase a 1 gigabyte RAM chip for the laptop which greatly increased its application loading performance.

Not for the processor, it has a Intel Celeron M single core 1. 5 megahertz CPU, which is also obviously underpowered for today’s high demanding applications, but still great for Office applications and other applications that do not require a huge amount of CPU usage.

I have had this laptop for 5 years now and about 4 years after purchasing it the hinges on the monitor got really weak, to the point where the monitor would need to be let down into the “secure closed” position so it would not slam shut, so this was an issue, and a pain to replace the (easily findable) hinges for this laptop. What I particularly like about this laptop is the keyboard, it has a very nice half press soft touch keyboard, its fantastic, one of the best I have ever had on a laptop, and I have personally owned about a half a dozen notebooks and came in contact with many more, and this keyboard is by far the best type I have experienced on a laptop computer, very smooth for the faster typists, a nice keyboard layout that I think was generously thought through and effectively implemented, there is also media button to the left of he keyboard for play/pause, stop, next track/scene, previous track/scene, which are conveniently placed.

The laptop came with Windows XP Home edition with some basic “Junk software”, which is obviously out of date and looked down upon not that were on the point of being introduced to Windows 7, but most have to remember the reliability of Windows XP, even though this is the weaker and more limited “Home Edition”. Now as for the battery, I have never been happy with the time the battery lasts, which is about an hour and 10 minutes, now with the screen full brightness and an application or two running, even basic applications it would last about 40 minutes at best, so not the “longest lasting battery” and yet another weak point of this laptop.

As for the touch pad, it’s a basic 1 inch by ...

      1. 5 inch size with a “easy to touch” surface, not to glossy, and yet not to slow, it does lack a “scroll” area on the touch pad, so that can get annoying, it is also a two button interface.

The CD/DVD-ROM drive is a good quality, and can write on CD-R and CD-RW at no more then 12x (That just seems to be its preferred speed for CD’s) though it does say it is capable of writing at 16x, it seems to have trouble, or it could be picky about the brand of CD’s as some drives are. The drive does play DVD’s but it cannot write on them, so its useless for burning to DVD, and I find that due to its limited battery it would not be able to play an entire movie for a flight, so don’t plan on it.

The laptop has Realtek AC97 audio with two speakers placed on the far left and far right lower part of the laptop, right to the left and to the right of where your wrists would be while typing,

it has a little bit of a “Surround sound” feel to it though it is not true surround sound, the volume is controlled by a volume wheel on the right side of the notebook, which I very much prefer over digitally controlling the volume of the laptop. The laptop has 3 USB ports, one on the right and two in the back, it also has an EVGA port on the back for the older external monitors, there is also an Ethernet port on the back and a Dial-up (Regular phone jack) in the back as well.

On the right of the notebook there is a slot for a wireless internet card I have never used one in this notebook just wanted to make a note that there is one on it, there is also microphone in and headphone out ports on the right of the notebook with acceptable sound and mic quality. So to sum up this is a great computer for users who don’t use they’re computers for more then watching DVD’s, web browsing, emails, music, and other basic common computing, also its slim and lightweight design makes it for a great portable laptop.
