  • The Checkers brand of tobacco cost about 12.99 a bag and will typically last about two or three weeks depending on how many of my husbands friends drop by to bum cigarettes off of him
  • I think people need to take more personal responsibility for their own actions rather than make it harder on everyone else by changing laws and our products to suit them
  • Before we started rolling cigarettes, we spent 23.00 a week or more now we spend 26.00 a month which is a savings of 66.00 a month, or more and that is if I bought the no name brand cigarettes

Checkers Tobacco is a fairly new brand of tobacco in our local area. It is a product that comes from New York according to the packaging. Like most Americans we have been hit by my husband being laid off so we have had to look for ways to save money or cut back on luxuries each month.

One of those luxuries includes my husbands habit of smoking two or more packs of cigarettes a day. When he is working and we can afford it he likes to smoke
      Camels’.

However while he is laid off we have went to rolling his cigarette’s. Usually I can roll about three cartons of cigarettes out of one sixteen ounce bag of tobacco.

The Checkers brand of tobacco cost about 12. 99 a bag and will typically last about two or three weeks depending on how many of my husbands friends drop by to bum cigarettes off of him.

The Checkers brand is the cheapest in our area. It comes with 660 papers but we usually buy tops papers instead.

      The ...

      • papers that come with the tobacco are the new kind that self extinguish, which means they don’t burn worth a darn. It’s all part of some new fangled law supposedly to protect us.

I think people need to take more personal responsibility for their own actions rather than make it harder on everyone else by changing laws and our products to suit them. The only complaint I have about the Checkers Tobacco is that when it gets dried out the least little bit, it breaks into small pieces making it hard to roll and it falls out the ends of the cigarettes at that point which annoys me.

However you still can’t beat the value or money saved. Before we started rolling cigarettes, we spent 23 a week or more now we spend 26 a month which is a savings of 66 a month, or more and that is if I bought the no name brand cigarettes.

So just think of how much it would be if I were still buying Camel’s or Pall Mall brands.

I would like to know the area that you live in. You said that your husband smokes 2 packs a day and you was only spending $ 23 a week. I spend around $ 90 a week on just my smokes for Marlboro Lights, plus my ole lady smokes them too. Just curious because with them prices I’d drive a 500 mile distance a month to get smokes for that price. Thanks, Michael
