  • But, I think any team that is honestly considering him as a featured back Taylor is a player who has surpassed 10,000 yards on the ground
  • Adding to that though is definitely the injury history
  • Because of his age, this is going to likely continue to be a problem
  • If a team does consider him, it should be as a running back in a 2-back system where he isn't getting more than 20 carries per game

I see the Jacksonville Jaguars released Fred Taylor this week. Because he is a big name, there’s a good chance the running back will draw a lot of interest as a free agent. But, I think any team that is honestly considering him as a featured back Taylor is a player who has surpassed 10,000 yards on the ground; which is the reason teams will likely be interested in at

      least looking at him.

But, he has two things working against him when it comes to finding that big money deal; age and injuries. I’ll start first with his age.

He’s 33 years old. Yes, that’s roughly the same age I am.

But I haven’t been slamming my body into NFL defensive linemen for the past decade or so either. If I were a general manager of an NFL team,

      • I would have justifiable doubts about any running back that is over the age of 30.

Adding to that though is definitely the injury history. For a while, it looked like Taylor had overcome is early history because he was staying healthy.

But, he tore something in his hand this year and didn’t finish the season. He also missed 23 games from 1998-2001.

He also didn’t finish the 2004 season.

Because of his age, this is going to likely continue to be a problem.

If a team does consider him, it should be as a running back in a 2-back system where he isn’t getting more than 20 carries per game. He still has some ability and can be a valuable asset.

But, he’s not the guy who can carry the load any more and I don’t want to see some team overspending to get him.
