My family and I have camped at the Pickwick Landing State Park campground three times. We stayed there twice last summer and recently spent a long weekend there for the Easter holiday. We enjoy this campground very much and it is one of our favorites.

The campground is very well shaded. It’s mostly pine trees which tend to attract ticks but we’ve never had a problem with them. Because of how well shaded it is, even during the heat of the summer it is a comfortable temperature. A light rain hardly makes it through it at all. However, during the cooler months it also isn’t that warm because not much sunlight gets through. Very early

or late season camping isn’t ideal.

While the campground does not have camping spots directly on the water, there is a short path in the woods in one of the coves that leads down to the water. When the river is up, there isn’t much room at the end of the trail so keep the water level in mind before you make the hike.

The campground is well patrolled by the camp host and park rangers. Everyone is very friendly and the facilities are well maintained. The bath house is not new, but everything works and it is kept clean and stocked. It is heated during the cooler months, but there is no air conditioning.

      • Two handicapped accessible spots are available and the park offers discounts for disabled persons. The handicapped spots are level, concrete pads that are very easy to back into and require no leveling of the camper. I will say that none of the other spots are very level and you can expect to take some time leveling up. Most of the spots are not wide enough to put out your awning but you really won’t find a need for it.

The campground is currently being converted from 30 amp service to 50 amp. Sewer is not available, but the dump station is set up nicely and is quite convenient. On the majority of the spots,

the electric and water hookups are on the wrong side so you may need an extension cord or a second water hose in some places.

There are several places to visit in the area so there is plenty to do. Shiloh National Military Park is only a short drive away. You can easily spend all day touring the museum and battlefields. Savannah, TN is also a short drive and there are several points of interest located there. Of course, Pickwick has great fishing, boat rentals, a swimming area and a playground.

The Pickwick Landing State Park campground is a great place to camp. If you’re in the area, you should really give it a try.
